An elderly man from Woodhall Spa, 82, has received an 18-year prison sentence for multiple historic child sex offences. Ronald Short was found guilty on eight counts, which included attempted rape and sexual assault, during his trial at Lincoln Crown Court. The crimes were committed when he was in his early sixties. Judge Simon Hirst, who presided over the case, noted that Short is likely to spend his remaining years in prison.
In a victim impact statement, the profound ongoing trauma and anxiety caused by Short’s actions were revealed. Detective Constable Kyle Barlow from Lincolnshire Police suggested that the sentencing could offer some solace to the victim in spite of the continuing damage inflicted.
Moreover, a restraining order has been issued against Short. This legally prohibits him from making any future contact with the victim. He is also required to stay on the sex offenders register for the duration of his life.
