The Abbey Walk Car Park in Grimsby, known for its artwork by eminent sculptor Harold Gosney, is set to undergo demolition. The multi-level car park has been shut since May 2024 owing to structural problems and will be substituted by a ground-level car park, keeping the possibility for future expansion open. Expected to start on 5th January 2026, the demolition process, which will take about 12 weeks and is estimated to cost around £750,000, has been complicated due to its proximity to a railway line and an office building. Despite efforts from local campaigners to save the modernist reliefs on the pillars, they will be dismantled; however, the University of Lincoln has digitally captured these sculptures for their potential re-creation. Throughout the period of demolition, road closures on Abbey Walk, between Osborne Street and the Garden Street entrance, will be in effect.
