Team GB swimmer, Freya Colbert, has officially opened a newly renovated gym at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre in Lincolnshire, her previous training base. Colbert, famed for her impressive performances at the World, European, and Commonwealth championships, made her first Olympic appearance in Paris in 2024. The celebrated 21-year-old shared her joy on returning to a venue that holds fond memories for her and acknowledged the significant improvements made to the gym.
“I had my first gym session here in the old gym, and I sincerely hope this new version serves everyone incredibly well,” she noted.
The refurbishment, costing £240,000, boasts 70 new stations compatible with Wi-Fi, modernised weights and cardiovascular machines, and improvements in flooring, decor, and lighting. Members of the local Grantham and Deepings swimming clubs were present for the grand opening, where Councillor Paul Stokes emphasised the benefits of the gym’s cutting-edge facilities to the wider Grantham community.
This initiative, backed by South Kesteven District Council, is an attempt to encourage a healthier and more vibrant community. The gym is scheduled to reopen to the public this coming Saturday.
