Lincolnshire Schools Call for Community Support in Tackling Student Vaping

Schools throughout Lincolnshire are grappling with the escalating problem of student vaping. This issue has become a significant worry for educators across the county. The St Lawrence Academy in Scunthorpe has taken decisive action to address the issue by altering its grounds and enhancing staff observation to suppress student vaping. This problem intensified in the wake of the pandemic. James Stainton, a teacher at the academy, has underlined the difficulties encountered due to students openly confessing their “addiction” to vaping, despite being aware of the associated health threats. Dan Ellerby, the school’s Head Teacher, has called for increased parent and community support to tackle this persistent problem, “Our strategies have minimized incidents, but the problem continues”, he noted. Similar concerns are echoed by schools throughout the region, many of which are investing in vape detectors and implementing interventions, placing a strain on already strained budgets. Educators are appealing for government-supported initiatives to inform students about the perils of vaping. They are also asking for coherent guidelines to more effectively manage the scenario.
