Marc Jones, the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Lincolnshire, has agreed to undergo training focused on his professional conduct code after a conduct complaint was made against him. An internal report by the Lincolnshire Police and Crime Panel disclosed that Jones had been sending text messages with confidential details about a recruitment process, and had used robust language when referring to some panel members.
Jones explained that the issues were related to the recruitment process for a new chief constable in 2020, and were years in the past. He also stated that the primary allegations against him were discarded without blame. The panel’s monitoring officer, Will Bell, commented that while Jones’ language was not in harmony with the obligation to treat others with dignity and respect, no further action was needed concerning other allegations.
Councillor Graham Marsh voiced disappointment over the incident, highlighting that it might negatively affect public confidence. Jones, who recently left the Conservative Party and announced he will serve as an Independent until 2028, expressed confusion over the timing of the report, emphasising that the issue had already been resolved previously.
