£1.7m Roadworks Set to Smooth Historic Bailgate’s Bumpy Ride

Lincoln’s significant Bailgate, steeped in history, is about to get an essential £1.7 million makeover with roadworks planned to address the irregular stone block paving that has been causing a notoriously uneven ride for motorists. The roadworks are due to commence on 19 January and might last for approximately three months. This important street serves as a critical connection between the renowned Lincoln Cathedral and the historic Roman Newport Arch, both significant landmarks of the city. The planned roadworks aim to stabilise the paving, resulting in a smoother journey for all road users. Councillor Michael Cheyne, serving as the executive member for highways, reassured inhabitants that these enhancements are projected to decrease the need for highway maintenance over the next twenty years. Furthermore, he promised that these works would have lasting benefits for both motorists and the conservation of the unique character of Lincoln’s history. It has been reported by The Lincoln Post, accruing credit to original reporting by bbc.com.
