A Week of Nostalgia and Celebrations in Lincolnshire!

What an eventful week it’s been for the history enthusiasts of Lincolnshire! From flying our county flag with vigour to bicycle advancements and a deliciously nostalgic journey down memory lane, our beloved county truly has had it all.

First and foremost, we commemorated Lincolnshire Day with not just our customary zeal, but also a profound understanding of the narrative behind our treasured county flag. Many of us have held it aloft with pride, yet how many of us really knew about its captivating beginnings? Courtesy of an enlightening piece from the BBC, we unpacked the journey of our flag transforming into a well-loved symbol that echoes with our joint identity. It’s a reminder that within every thread that binds our community there lies a tale to tell.

In Barton-upon-Humber, a tribute exhibition to Fred Hopper and his business has been stealing the show. Hopper, a paragon of innovation and overseas trade in the late 19th Century, built a heritage on a pair of wheels. His bicycles, once the heart pump of Barton-upon-Humber, now enjoy a fantastic showcase, signifying the town’s contribution to our county’s vibrant history. It indeed salutes the creativity and entrepreneurial drive alive and well within Lincolnshire.

We also embarked on a savoury trip down memory lane this week, as we indulged in some beloved school canteen classics. The pink custard and square-shaped pizzas, highlighted in a charming feature, whisked many of us back to our school days, stirring up a soothing wave of nostalgia. It served as a touching acknowledgement of how food can create strong links to our past.

In summary, it’s been a week abundant with discoveries and retrospection, reaffirming how our history moulds our present. Our shared experiences and tales are what render our county so uniquely special. Here’s raising a toast to another week of rejoicing and unravelling the rich tapestry that is Lincolnshire!
