In the past week, Lincolnshire’s illustrious history has been under the limelight, weaving a rich tableau of tales and images that have drawn our past into the present in the most heartening manner.

Our journey into the past set off with the unearthing of a collection of photographs by Michael Blakemore, taken during routine visits to his grandparents in Grimsby and Cleethorpes. These evocative photographs, some dating back fifty years, offer a captivating snapshot of the lives of our antecedents. The busy docks, families revelling in the splendour of our beaches, convivial gatherings in local pubs – every photograph stands as a testament to our community’s indomitable spirit.

This exploration then leapt into the vibrant history of Lincolnshire itself. From the folk stories of playful imps to fascinating archaeological findings, each day shone a spotlight on a new aspect of our history. The tales reignited the bond we share with our forebears, their challenges, their triumphs, and their everyday existence.

This week has underscored the roots from which we, as a community, have grown. The nostalgia it has inspired is not solely about harking back to times past, but also celebrating the journey we have undertaken as a community. It is enlightening to see our growth as a community, while maintaining our distinct charm.

In essence, the past week has been about much more than merely history or nostalgia. It has been about us – the inhabitants of Lincoln and Lincolnshire. We have been delving into our own story, our own heritage. This has been a wonderfully enriching expedition!

Indeed, here’s to many more weeks of such splendid revelations. After all, history isn’t just about our past, it’s about forging the legacy we wish to leave for future generations.
