A Week of Triumph, Tribute and Togetherness in Lincolnshire

It’s been an extraordinary week for Lincolnshire, reflecting on the notable events of the last seven days, it’s evident our community stands as a beacon of unity, resilience and undying spirit. Setting the tone, Cleethorpes delightfully conducted the National Armed Forces Day, welcoming an estimated crowd of 200,000 spectators. This splendid day served as a heartfelt homage to our heroes, a celebration of their remarkable endeavours in ensuring the security of Britain, both domestically and internationally. Their bravery and dedication leave us in awe.

Switching focus to Louth, the Run for Life event is on track to cross an amazing milestone. This community-driven initiative stands on the verge of raising a notable £1 million for Cancer Research. The visible spirit of determination and unity propels us all to contribute to this worthy cause.

In local news, we commemorated the 106th birthday of a cherished Lincoln resident and a veteran of Bletchley Park. Her life narratives contribute to the rich tapestry of history and heroic deeds that our community is shaped upon. Also, the RAF Waddington’s City Parade engaged enthusiastic crowds, paying tribute to the personnel from the base honoured with the Freedom of Lincoln back in 1959. The parade’s comeback filled the city’s streets with joy and immense local pride.

In parallel, we paid tribute to extraordinary accomplishments at the Lincoln College Group’s summer awards ceremony and recognising Learning Disability Week with local festivities, validating once again that Lincolnshire takes pride in acknowledging and cherishing every individual. From the skies to our roots on the ground, we’ve honoured our history as well, with a tribute flight made by a local Grantham man and the unveiling of a new mosaic in Gainsborough celebrating our Viking ancestry.

Lastly, amidst a week of celebrations, we also shared a poignant moment of grief with the loss of Nigel, the well-loved three-legged puma at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. Nigel’s saga reached out to many and his spirit will persist in inspiring us.

From revering our heroes to passionately supporting a cause, marking important milestones and paying respects to those we’ve lost, it’s been a week that truly mirrors the soul of Lincolnshire. Let’s look forward to another week brimming with courage, community spirit, and comradeship!
