A Week of Warm Hearts and Heroic Deeds in Lincolnshire

This past week has seen heartening displays of kindness and community spirit throughout Lincolnshire. This included ceaseless dedication from volunteers enduring freezing conditions to provide food for the homeless, and the initiative of a local woman who set up ‘Street Angels’ to enhance safety during Lincoln’s evening social scene. These actions reflect not just significant individual selflessness, but serve as evidence of the compelling impact of community and epitomise the readiness of Lincolnshire’s people to lend a hand to those in need.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Viking Way, a series of events were held, celebrating our shared cultural heritage. The symbolic journey along this historical trail is a reflection on our shared past and highlights the resilience of our close-knit community.
Another testament to our community’s inner strength is the personal tale of Nigel Brasier, a local snooker player seeking comfort in sport as he battles with MND.
As the weekend looms, a wave of new experiences await. From the prospect of a 16-hour adventure at Gainsborough’s Wetherspoons, or enjoying a tranquil break at the new pop-up Salthouse Sauna on Cleethorpes Beach; to participating in the snowdrop planting initiative at Whisby Nature Park in support of a children’s bereavement charity, there is an activity to appeal to all. Exceptionally, young Aniyah has embarked on completing a noteworthy 122-mile run in aid of the Guide Dogs Charity, and Sophie’s Journey has begun to construct a new holiday home for cancer support.
Our thoughts are also with the family of the founder of J Naylor Funeral Directors, whose loss was among 23 bereavements this week. While mourning and honouring those who have passed, it is essential we also recognise the shared spirit and invaluable moments that render Lincolnshire such a vibrant community.
As we step into the new week, let’s remember to safeguard our winter plants from slugs using eco-friendly methods and maintain our community’s shared spirit of resilience and warmth.
