Badgers Cause Road Repair Delays Near East Halton

Road repairs on College Road, near East Halton, have seen a delay of six months, eliciting frustrations from the North Lincolnshire Council. The Council’s leader, Rob Waltham, has labelled the delay as ‘outrageous,’ as wildlife protections, specifically concerning the badger mating season, are hindering immediate steps to counteract the road hazards.

Despite obtaining a license from Natural England in October to move the badgers, the efforts haven’t proved successful as the animals returned to their original sett. This means the repair work has now been pushed back to July 2026.

Waltham emphasised on the risks and inconveniences looming over the community due to this delay and appealed for a balanced resolution. In response, Natural England has suggested they could consider discussing possible extension to the license with the council when the new year begins.
