Campaigners Rally to Save Libraries in North East Lincolnshire

There are plans for changes to libraries in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Waltham.

Campaigners Rally to Save Libraries in North East Lincolnshire

Over 100 worried residents attended a public meeting to debate the suggested amendments to libraries in North East Lincolnshire. The meeting was arranged by the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Civic Society, and showcased the North East Lincolnshire Council’s proposals to move Cleethorpes Library into the town’s leisure centre, and convert Waltham Library into a community-run facility. Furthermore, the council is contemplating relocating Grimsby Central Library to a new town centre hub. The Civic Society spearheaded the ā€˜Save Our Libraries’ campaign, collecting more than 900 signatures in a petition against the proposed changes. Angela Greenfield of the society communicated her apprehensions on BBC Radio Humberside, expressing her discontentment with the planned relocations and the potential disappearance of library services. Grimsby Central Library has remained closed since March due to a water leak and the threat of asbestos disruption, while the council evaluates the necessary repairs and surveys possible temporary locations for a makeshift library, ensuring all required safety precautions are undertaken.
