Plans have received approval for a £24.9m community diagnostic centre (CDC) to be set up at the former York Street stadium site in Boston, which was previously the home of Boston United. The facility is set to offer crucial services such as CT scans, MRIs, and X-rays. The renovation will necessitate the demolition of current structures, comprising spectator stands and lighting towers. The centre is projected to open its doors by spring 2027.

Daren Fradgley, the deputy chief executive at Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group, strongly emphasised that the upcoming Boston facility would extremely help reduce the strain on the county’s existing heavily utilised hospital sites. “We’re in the process of finalising the required arrangements, like the site purchase, and then we can start the demolition and construction,” he explained. “Run by the same NHS teams as our hospitals, the CDC will be linked to the same digital systems and will offer free parking for patients.”

Several NHS CDCs are already in operation in Lincolnshire, including facilities in Lincoln and Skegness. These have served over 100,000 patients since they first opened doors at the end of 2024. Boston United played their last match at York Street in 2020 before relocating to the Jakemans Community Stadium.
