Graffiti of St George’s Cross on Lincoln church wall labelled ‘intimidating’ by vicar

The Reverend Rachel Heskins has voiced her unease following the appearance of a St George’s Cross on the wall of St John the Baptist Church on Laughton Way, Lincoln. The reverend explained the incident as an act intended to intimidate and emphasised the distress it has induced in the area’s local community renowned for its inclusiveness.

The graffiti, which was also found on nearby road markings, has spurred volunteers to form groups to clear away the paint from the historical building. Reverend Heskins stated, ‘The St George’s Cross has turned into a symbol of nationalism that is frequently confused with patriotism – but the two are incredibly different.’
