Grantham Bodybuilder Clinches World Title on Debut

Donald Sweeting, a 34-year-old assistant gym manager hailing from Grantham, has impressively clinched the Bantamweight division at the WNBF Amateur World Championships in Los Angeles. Notably, this was his debut on the global stage against a cadre of 250 athletes. Sweeting, with absolute delight, described this triumph as a ‘dream come true’. On conversing with BBC Radio Lincolnshire, he communicated his astonishment at this victorious maiden attempt, stating that he had ‘no preconceived expectations’.

Sweeting explained the nature of Natural bodybuilding, which complies with Olympic regulations prohibiting substances like steroids and weight loss drugs. This ensures competitors maintain a more balanced physique in contrast to those falling under sporting categories that allow the use of such substances.

Sweeting’s global recognition was preceded by a victory at the UK Natural Bodybuilding Championship in September. He took up bodybuilding in his early twenties as a remedy for his mental health tribulations, finding therapeutic relief in the rigours and progressive journey through the sport.

His achievements not only reflect the burgeoning bodybuilding community in Lincolnshire, but they also serve as a beacon of hope for those grappling with similar mental health struggles.
