Grantham Event to Highlight Military Skills for Lincolnshire Employers

An event intending to illuminate the worth of military skills within the workplace will occur during Armed Forces Week in Lincolnshire. The “Mission Business” display is planned for 25 June and prominently involves presentations geared at persuading county-wide businesses to consider employing veterans. This event will be held at the Officer’s Mess at the Prince William of Gloucester Barracks in Grantham. South Kesteven District Council’s armed forces champion, Bridget Ley, endorses it as a golden chance to aid businesses and ex-armed forces staff across Lincolnshire.

The organisation and coordination of this venture involve the South Kesteven District Council, the Ministry of Defence, and Business Unfinished consultancy. It promises to bring to light the council’s dedication to employing ex-military personnel in positions such as refuse collectors and grounds maintenance staff. Previous recognitions for the council include a gold award under the MoD’s defence employer recognition scheme.

Veterans will narrate their path from military service to civilian employment, giving attendees a unique perspective. Benefits of employing military reservists, potentially worth up to £10,000 for employers, will also be discussed. Furthermore, there will be vital insights from the Greater Lincolnshire Defence and Security Cluster (GLRDSC) on tapping into defence budgets for contracts. Julian Free, the University of Lincoln’s deputy vice-chancellor and former Army member, will give a talk. As the chairman of the GLRDSC, Mr Free places high value on the military, highlighting its well-qualified, hard-working individuals with technical skills beneficial to businesses.
