Grantham’s Harlaxton Road Bridge Ranked Second in UK’s Most Bashed Bridges

Harlaxton Road Bridge in Grantham, Lincolnshire, has been flagged as the second most frequently struck bridge in the UK, new data from Network Rail reveals. From 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, the bridge has seen a total of 18 collisions. Notably, it is the A5 Watling Street bridge in Hinckley, Leicestershire, which tops the chart, having been struck 22 times. Network Rail has urged lorry drivers to be vigilant in checking vehicle heights and meticulously plan routes to prevent such incidents, as the number of bridge strikes nationwide is exhibiting a worrying increase of 8.75%, totalling to 1,666 instances.
