Great Grimsby Christmas Festival to Spark Festive Cheer in Lincolnshire

The Great Grimsby Christmas Festival is readying a full itinerary of Yuletide celebrations. Scheduled for this Saturday from 12:00 to 19:00 GMT, the event features live entertainment, markets, and activities for all ages. The day’s programme, brought to life by the North East Lincolnshire Council, includes notable events such as the Grimsby light parade at 17:15 and the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree at 17:45 in St James’ Square. Councillor Stewart Swinburn urges residents to enjoy this festive gathering.

Children visiting the Grimsby Minster can look forward to complimentary face painting and craft activities, provided by the North East Lincolnshire Council’s fostering team. They will also be encouraged to pen Christmas poems, which will be transformed into baubles and added to the Minster’s Christmas tree. An ongoing philanthropic initiative, the Host A Heart campaign, calls on festival-goers to donate gifts from 10 November to 17 December.

Accessibility to the event has been enhanced through a collaboration between North East Lincolnshire Council and Stagecoach, offering £1.50 bus fares as part of the Leisure Scheme. These reduced rates will be operational throughout the Yuletide season and extend into the New Year, active after 18:00 on weekdays and all day on weekends, reducing the concerns about petrol or parking costs.

The festival also presents an assortment of stalls purveying handmade gifts and crafts from over 30 local artisans. This Merry Makers’ Market will be set up in both St James’ Square and Riverhead Square. The food and beverage menu features festive favourites like German sausages, Yorkshire pudding wraps, mulled wine, and Baileys hot chocolate. Music lovers can enjoy live performances on the main stage at St James’ Square, with Riverhead Square being the venue for carol renditions by All For One Choir, Grimsby Symphony Orchestra, and Back to Brass.
