Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Urges Installation of Smoke Alarms in Caravans

In light of a distressing fire at Golden Beach Holiday Park in Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue is pressing for enhanced safety precautions in caravans. The fire, which took place on 5 April, led to the tragic deaths of 10-year-old Esme Baker and her father, Lee Baker, 48, both from Retford. Their fatalities were judged as inadvertent by an inquest at Lincoln Coroner’s Court on 9 December due to smoke inhalation. Dan Moss, area manager, emphasised the absence of a fire alarm in the caravan, underlining the significance of smoke detectors for early fire alerts. The fire service, in cooperation with East Lindsey District Council and the National Fire Chief Council, is reconsidering safety regulations. Current laws mandate fire alarms solely in caravans utilised for letting, not private ones. However, The National Caravan Council advises smoke alarms for all caravans as best practice.
