North Lincolnshire to Consult on Restricting Social Housing to Local Residents

North Lincolnshire is set to undergo public consultation regarding plans to limit access to social housing exclusively to long-term residents, according to an announcement from the council. If implemented, the suggested changes will require residents to have lived in the area for a minimum of five years to be eligible for social housing. Furthermore, these changes aim to give priority to military veterans, workers, carers, individuals leaving care, and survivors of domestic abuse.

An additional aspect of the proposed changes includes stricter financial criteria, disqualifying those with high incomes or substantial savings from accessing social housing. Council leader Rob Waltham said, ‘People here tell us the same thing time and again: they want a fair system that puts local families first and that’s exactly what we’re doing.’
