In a moving story out of Lincolnshire, four donkeys once living in desperate conditions have found new life at the Bransby Horses Rescue Centre. The quartet, known as Buttons, Bueno, Yorkie, and Malteser, were part of an astounding 455 abused animals rescued from a farm in Nottinghamshire the previous year.

Since being moved to the charity based in Lincoln, the donkeys have quickly become firm favourites with visitors, regularly greeting them enthusiastically at the entrance. Imogen Leahy, a devoted equine welfare assistant, discussed how each of the donkeys, dubbed The Chocolate Group lovingly, have evolved unique demeanours and appreciating their fresh liberty among the green pastures.

While plans are in place for Yorkie and Buttons to be transferred to a new home soon, Malteser and Bueno continue to revel in their engaging ‘donkey day care’ activities. These activities offer intellectual stimulation, including navigation challenges with poles and various toys.

The remarkable turnaround of these donkeys stands as a shining example of Bransby Horses’ deep commitment to animal welfare, as they continue to give these creatures a much-deserved second chance in life.
