Set to make a thrilling comeback, the restored Cleethorpes 54 trolleybus will be a prominent feature this Saturday at The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft, positioned on the Isle of Axholme. Starting its service in 1937 and commuting between Grimsby and Cleethorpes, this trolleybus stands as the only remaining one from its fleet, rescued from a Grimsby scrapyard in 1975 by Andrew Fieldsend. The refurbishment, a passionate project spanning close to fifty years, has recently been concluded, giving visitors an opportunity to behold this classic vehicle in its restored splendour. Running from 11:30 to 18:30 GMT, the open day event is going to be the final showcase of the season before the museum ceases operation for winter. Trolleybuses, that were once a typical sight on local roads and were operated by overhead cables, provide a sentimental journey into the area’s transport history.
