Scunthorpe Mother Heartbroken After Son’s Memorial Bench Vandalised

A Scunthorpe mother is devastated after learning that a memorial bench she dedicated to her late son has been damaged by vandals. Sue Dook, 56, had the bench set up in Central Park, Scunthorpe, in honour of her son, Mathew, who tragically died at 19 due to diabetic ketoacidosis. Located at a spot that would have been visible on his 30th birthday, the bench was discovered in pieces, leaving the family distraught.

Dook conveyed her pain, explaining, “It feels like we’ve lost him all over again.” The bench was of considerable sentimental value, set up at a location Mathew loved during his childhood. Humberside Police have begun an investigation into the incident, encouraging anyone with knowledge about the situation to step forward. Meanwhile, the family’s friends have begun raising funds online to replace the bench.
