Scunthorpe’s Tai Woffinden Faces Uncertain Future After Major Crash

Tai Woffinden, Scunthorpe-born three-time speedway world champion, is facing an indeterminate future in his sport following a severe crash earlier in the year. The 34-year-old was put into a medically-induced coma after the accident, which took place in Poland in March, resulting in critical injuries that included a double break in his right leg and a broken back.

Discussing his situation openly on his YouTube channel, Woffinden expressed doubts about his continued career in speedway racing, in spite of his wish to get back on the bike. Acknowledged as one of the most successful British speedway riders, with Grand Prix world titles under his belt from 2013, 2015, and 2018, Woffinden is now staring at a difficult period of recovery.

He says, “I have a goal in my head to be back as fast as I can,” but understands that the road ahead remains unpredictable.
