Skegness Resident Dies After Staircase Incident, Court Hears

Title: Tragic Staircase Incident Leads to Death of Skegness resident, Court Informed

Rewritten Content:
At Lincoln Crown Court, a trial unfolded with the heartbreaking disclosure of an accident that led to the death of Sean Howson, aged 56. Howson tragically lost his life after falling down a staircase at a flat complex on Albany Road, Skegness. The unfortunate incident, taking place on the 3rd of July, had its origins in a disagreement over accumulated rubbish in a communal shed which had consequently attracted rats.

The court became aware that Howson was caught up in a dispute with the boyfriend of his neighbour, referred to as Harris, after reporting grievances to the housing association. The agitation within the community, as depicted by Prosecutor Katherine Goddard KC, was escalating due to the persisting litter issue. Howson was on one such day, sharing a social moment with a friend outside his ground floor flat, when a heated exchange broke out.

The prosecution advanced that after a curt exchange of words, Howson and his companion made their way to the staircase leading up to the overhead flat. In what followed, Harris is accused of kicking Howson, which allegedly led to his fall and subsequent fatal blow to his head on the concrete ground. Following this incident, Harris is said to have left the scene promptly.

It was acknowledged by the prosecutors that Harris lacked the motive to end Howson’s life, but they sustained the viewpoint that his actions were nonetheless illicit. This has resulted in a manslaughter charge against Harris. Later on, Harris approached a police officer, pleading self-defence and alleging that Howson had confronted him in a hostile manner.

The jury has been tasked with the duty of ascertaining whether Harris’s response was indeed in the course of self-defence. The judgement is yet to be reached as the trial continues.
