Solar Farm in Hatton Approved on Appeal Despite Local Opposition

The Planning Inspectorate recently reversed a decision from the East Lindsey District Council, endorsing a disputed solar farm installation in the vicinity of Hatton, Lincolnshire. The initial refusal of the project in October came on the heels of 378 objections from local inhabitants, concerned about the effects on the local landscape, which features a Grade II-listed farmhouse. The Inspectorate, however, resolved that the benefits that include powering up to 21,000 households and aiding the nation’s quest for net-zero carbon emissions outstripped any potential negative impacts. Louth and Horncastle MP, Victoria Atkins expressed her dismay, emphasising the potential repercussions on local landscapes and food security. Despite these concerns, the developers of the solar farm maintain objectives to generate 50MW of electricity and have committed to adopting strategies to reduce the project’s environmental impact to the minimum.
