Spalding Man Jailed for Life After Killing Friend in Daylight Attack

A life sentence has been given to a Spalding male following his admitted assassination of a close associate using a shattered bottle. The individual in question, Viktors Zeglovs, aged 34 and of no known address, was sentenced at the Lincoln Crown Court for the death of Vadims Zmicerevskis, aged 45. The fatal incident took place on 11 November 2024, at the conflux of Green Lane and St Thomas Road.
The court was informed that during a confrontation, Zeglovs utilised a broken rum bottle to cause a fatal injury on Mr Zmicerevskis’ neck, following an altercation with a different individual. The assault, which was severe enough to be deemed brutal, was recorded on CCTV. The footage portrayed Zeglovs turning on his companion and inflicting the damage after being attacked and knocked down by another person.
Despite experiencing this intense violence, Mr Zmicerevskis refrained from retaliating. Zeglovs was later observed providing assistance for his friend and made calls for help upon comprehending the grave nature of the injury inflicted.
The prosecutor, John Lloyd-Jones KC, described the incident as ‘a homicide executed in broad daylight on a residential street,’ while the defence attorney, Gordon Aspden KC, underscored that Zeglovs was under the influence of alcohol and was grappling with mental health problems during that point in time, both of which could have adversely affected his decision-making abilities.
Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight decreed that Zeglovs must serve at least 11 years and 306 days in prison before being considered for parole.
