Urgent Repairs Proposed for Lincoln’s Yarborough Road to Prevent Major Damage

Plans are in motion to stabilise a sliding hillside along Yarborough Road in Lincoln, at an approximate estimated cost of £1.7 million. The proposals, due to be discussed by the Lincolnshire County Council on 15 December, are targeted at mitigating the need for future emergency repairs. The embankment, a crucial support structure for the road, is in danger of caving in, posing potential threats to both the road and adjacent properties. The road’s current condition has already caused damage to both a pedestrian path and layby. A council report proposes the replacement of the compromised walls with reinforced earthworks over a 140-metre stretch, and the removal of the layby to address these issues. Should the plans receive approval, work is set to commence in March 2026 and is expected to last about four months. By not undertaking the proposed repairs, there is the prospect of significant subsidence, potentially leading to a complete road closure. Yarborough Hill features among the top ten roads in the area prone to rapid deterioration without intervention. While the council is looking at several solutions, including taking no action, the reinforced earthworks appear to be the preferred choice.
