Appeal after child and pensioner die following A157 crash near Louth

Lincolnshire Police have renewed an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage after a child and a pensioner died following a multi-vehicle crash on the A157 near Louth. The collision took place on 15 March on a straight stretch of the A157 shortly after Gayton le Wold, in the direction of Grimblethorpe, just before 4.30pm. Police said four vehicles were involved in the crash: a black Volvo XC60, a grey MG 1300, a blue Peugeot 108 and a white BMW X3. Officers added that a fifth vehicle also suffered what they described as collateral damage. A child from Birmingham, who was travelling as a passenger in the Volvo, died on 23 March. A 79-year-old woman from Mablethorpe, who had been driving the MG, was taken to hospital after the collision and died the following day. Lincolnshire Police said forensic examinations have now been completed at the scene, but enquiries into the full circumstances of the collision are continuing. Investigators are still seeking information from anyone who may have seen what happened, or who may have recorded relevant footage while driving through the area around the time of the crash. The force has particularly appealed for motorists who were travelling along that section of the A157 on the afternoon of 15 March to check any dashcam recordings that could assist officers. Even footage that does not show the collision itself may help investigators piece together the movements of the vehicles before and after the incident. The stretch of road where the crash happened is used by drivers travelling between Louth and surrounding villages including Gayton le Wold and Grimblethorpe, as well as by people heading towards the coast. Police have not released any further details about how the collision occurred, and no update has been given on whether anyone else suffered serious injuries. In a fresh appeal, officers said all available information could be important as they continue to establish exactly what happened. Anyone who witnessed the crash, saw any of the vehicles involved before the collision, or has dashcam footage from the area is being urged to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police and quote incident 287 of 15 March. Reports can be made by calling 101 or by emailing SCIU@lincolnshire.police.uk. No further details have been released at this stage. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are continuing to ask for the public’s help as they work to understand the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
