Ex-Lincoln student’s dream church wedding blessing hits snag as St Swithin’s ‘not structurally safe’
A former University of Lincoln postgraduate is hoping to return to the city for a small family wedding blessing, but says their first-choice church in central Lincoln may be difficult to access while building works are under way. In a post on the r/Lincolnshire Reddit community, the writer said they are already legally married in their home country and are now planning an intimate blessing ceremony in Lincoln with fewer than 10 relatives. They said their preferred venue is St Swithin’s Church, which they described as holding special memories after living nearby for a year. The poster added that they had not received a reply via the church’s general email address and that, as they are currently outside the UK, they cannot easily call. One Reddit user said St Swithin’s is currently surrounded by scaffolding and suggested this may affect whether the building can host a ceremony. The user also claimed that services are taking place elsewhere rather than inside the church. The Lincoln Post has not independently verified these claims. Other Reddit users suggested alternative locations in Lincolnshire for a small blessing, including village churches near Lincoln and Louth Register Office.
