A Boston-based mother has shared her joy as much-needed adjustments for her wheelchair-dependent son finally come to completion, following an arduous wait of over three years. Aged 27, Ayla faced constant challenges in helping Robbie, her 12-year-old son, navigate their terraced home, including carrying him up narrow flights of stairs to utilise the bathroom.
In 2021 the family moved into a council house, with renovations on an essential ground floor extension only commencing in January of this year. The modification, which consists of a bedroom and a wet room for Robbie, was subject to several delays in planning and construction. As a result, Robbie was sleeping in the dining room until the building was finished last month. Ayla stated that the new facilities have been a significant boon to her and Robbie, greatly ameliorating their quality of life.
Recognising the intricacies of the case, Boston Borough Council is currently working to streamline efficiency in their referrals process. This is an attempt to offer better, more timely support for other families facing similar circumstances.
