Grimsby Man Among Those Affected by Heart Procedure Failings at NHS Hospital

Patients who died at Castle Hill Hospital near Hull may have suffered avoidable harm, documents suggest.

Grimsby Man Among Those Affected by Heart Procedure Failings at NHS Hospital

Residents of Lincolnshire have been left reeling as information comes to light regarding mishandled heart procedures at a nearby Castle Hill Hospital. Among those affected was 83-year-old former fisherman from Grimsby, Brian Hunter, who was one of 11 patients tragically lost due to complications resulting from the TAVI heart procedure.

While initially told his death was a result of a heart attack, Mr. Hunter’s family only recently learned through a BBC report that errors occurred during the procedure, which may have played a role in his untimely death. Mr. Hunter’s care was assessed by the Royal College of Physicians, who graded the care he received as ‘very poor’, with technical errors by the TAVI team causing a detrimental outcome.

Tracy Fisher, Mr. Hunter’s daughter, criticised the hospital for its lack of transparency. “Discovering three years later that the true cause behind your father’s demise isn’t what you were originally told is atrocious,” she commented.

These revelations come in the wake of an ongoing police investigation into the hospital’s practices after several instances of preventable harm were suggested in various documents. As of now, the investigation is still in its early stages with the Humberside Police overseeing it.

Original reporting for this story was carried out by the BBC and used by The Lincoln Post for the creation of this article.
