Lincolnshire Care Home Celebrates 106th Birthday of Codebreaking Veteran

Title: Lincolnshire Care Home Marks 106th Birthday of Codebreaking War Vet

The Cloverleaf Care Home in Lincolnshire is celebrating a remarkable landmark occasion as Joan Mace, an illustrious veteran of the Bletchley Park codebreaking team during the Second World War, turns 106.

Mrs Mace resides at Cloverleaf Home and was instrumental in her role as a teleprinter operator at the iconic Bletchley Park, the very site where the infamous Enigma code was deciphered. Born in 1919, Joan’s extraordinary existence spans her time in service with the RAF and later years managing a Devon guest house. It’s her frequent cycle journeys and avoidance of alcohol, according to Joan, that have contributed to her remarkable longevity.

The staff at the care home, who rave about her as being ‘exceptional’ are organising a unique afternoon tea party in her honour to coincide with her birthday. Local singer is featuring in a simultaneous Glastonbury-inspired event.

Joan’s awe-inspiring life story continues to captivate, with her humbly silent about her significant contributions during the war. She is a regular participant in local activities and is known for her fondness for a delectable chocolate trifle from Marks & Spencer.
