Lincolnshire Reservoir Project Fast-Tracked to Ensure Future Water Supply

The UK government has confirmed the expedited progression of a new reservoir scheme in south Lincolnshire, a project regarded as crucial for safeguarding England’s future water resources. This hastened approach, confronted with increasing temperatures and demand, also pertains to the Fens Reservoir in Cambridgeshire. Environment Secretary Steve Reed is set to make the final decisions in the planning process.

The Lincolnshire Reservoir is anticipated to be fully operational by 2040, with the goal of strengthening drought resistance in the region. This insight is supplied by Dr Glenn Watts, affiliated with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology.

The acceleration of this project coincides with concerns surrounding extremely dry conditions this year and a dearth of water resources available for expanding residential development and industrial sectors. Nevertheless, potential repercussions on neighbouring communities have raised concern, with fears that the expedited process may neglect local opposition.
