Lincolnshire Residents Alerted to the Threat of Rogue Traders

North East Lincolnshire Council issues guidance on how to spot a doorstep scammer.

Lincolnshire Residents Alerted to the Threat of Rogue Traders

The North East Lincolnshire Council has sent out a notice to its local residents regarding the rising presence of rogue tradespeople working in the area. Officers from Trading Standards report that these rogue traders, who are pretending to be financial experts and offering questionable services, have been cold calling residents. There are ongoing investigations by the police in Lincolnshire into incidents involving these characters claiming to be professional roofers. Of particular concern is an incident where a senior resident was unfairly charged for repair work that wasn’t necessary.

Councillor Ron Shepherd underscored the need for vigilance, especially when it comes to keeping an eye out for susceptible family members. In order to safeguard themselves, locals have been counseled to keep an eye out for tradespeople who demand large upfront payments, deny giving written quotations, or who have no physical business premises. The advice is to confirm the legitimacy of these traders, seek endorsements from trustworthy sources, and to always validate identification.

The police force in Lincolnshire has made public an image of a man they are keen to question in relation to these activities. The authorities have also issued an appeal to the public for any footage from doorbell or dashboard-mounted cameras.
