Almost 20 schools in Lincolnshire are due to receive essential repairs and upgrades as a result of newly announced government funding. The scheme will see 18 schools in the county improved, with work set to start this summer and finish by April of next year. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson stressed the need to provide pupils with safe and warm places to learn, asserting, “That’s what children are entitled to.”
Notable projects include urgent fire safety improvements at Spalding Grammar School to prevent a possible shutdown, and the removal of asbestos at Westgate Academy in Lincoln. This funding forms part of a broader investment of £40 million across the East Midlands. Other schools in Lincolnshire that will benefit from this investment are Boston Grammar School, Boston High School, and Gipsey Bridge Academy near Boston, among others.
As well as educational institutions, Pilgrim Hospital in Boston is set to receive £7 million for crucial work on its electrical systems and fire safety. The Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust will receive around £750,000 for similar improvements across its facilities. Health Secretary Wes Streeting underscored the need to ensure both patients and staff have access to secure and comfortable buildings.
