Scunthorpe man jailed after high-speed crash kills partner and injures toddler

Marius Ionut Dencea’s young child was also left seriously injured in the M180 crash, a court heard.

Marius Ionut Dencea, a 35 year-old Scunthorpe resident, has been sentenced to nine years of imprisonment in relation to a fatal high-speed collision on the M180 near Barnetby, North Lincolnshire. Dencea was driving at a speed of 88mph when he veered off the motorway and collided with a tree. This accident tragically resulted in the death of his partner, Roxana Pitigoi, and left their toddler son with significant injuries.

Hull Crown Court reported that neither Dencea’s partner nor their son were restrained with seatbelts during the incident and the child was not securely positioned within a car seat. The accident happened under challenging weather conditions on their way home from a party in Grimsby. Evidence from dashcam footage corroborated the reckless and hazardous driving speed on the icy roads.

Residing on Berkeley Street, Dencea pleaded guilty to charges of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. In consequence, Dencea is now prohibited from driving for a duration of twelve and a half years.
