Families have been left disappointed by the temporary closure of a paddling pool in Sutton on Sea, Lincolnshire, following a significant £500,000 renovation. The Maple Leaf Pool, an integral part of the £7.5 million Seaview Colonnade project, has been closed since 6 June due to a leak. Unexpected water loss caused by problems with the pool’s circulation and drainage system was reported by East Lindsey District Council (ELDC).
Attempting to fix the problem is ongoing, but further investigations must be completed before a confirmed reopening date can be announced. An initial reopening estimation for the end of June was sadly dismissed after a trial refill of the pool failed. Local resident Megan Lawson expressed her disappointment upon arriving at the closed pool with her children. “It is rather disappointing, particularly given the recent warm weather. We need somewhere to keep the children cool,” she commented.
ELDC has reassured that it’s focusing on a lasting solution, not a quick fix, with no additional costs falling to the council or the taxpayers. The pool’s refurbishments began in 2023, and ultimately cost £524,000, exceeding the original budget by £124,000. The overrun was attributed to a new underground filtration system installation and increased costs of materials and labour.
