Teen Driver from North Lincolnshire Sentenced for Fatal Car Meet Incident

A North Lincolnshire teenager has been given a five-year sentence to a young offenders institution, subsequent to a tragic car meet accident that led to the fatality of a young man. Lewis Samuels, who was 19 years old, was driving at a high speed of 74 mph in a region restricted to 30 mph. After losing control of his car at Flixborough Industrial Estate, he hit onlookers. This incident happened on 24 September 2022, taking the life of 23-year-old Connor Richards and wounding 11 others. During that time, Samuels was 17 years old and had only passed his driving test just recently. Admitting to causing death and injuries through dangerous driving, he pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court.

The court was informed by Connor’s mother who portrayed her deceased son as a ‘very special and clever young individual’ who had a keen interest in cars that ultimately led him to his untimely death. Judge John Thackray pointed out the ‘extremely high speed’ and ‘showing off’ attitude of Samuels as two major points. Along with his confinement, Samuels has received a driving ban extending over nine years and is obligated to pass an extended test.
