Grimsby Fish Factory Closure Puts 115 Local Jobs at Risk

The Espersen fish processing plant, based in North East Lincolnshire at the Great Grimsby Business Park on Athenian Way, is planning to cease operations later this year. This move is anticipated to affect 115 employees. The impending closure follows an unsuccessful consultation process during May, where efforts were made to try and sustain the facility.

Espersen, a Danish firm, has stated that ‘challenging market conditions’ and a significant market landscape shift are the primary driving forces behind the decision. The company’s CEO, Tim Bendix, has communicated his disappointment regarding this outcome but highlighted the importance of addressing the prevailing economic situation.

A drop in production volume, prompted by waning demand and increasing costs of raw materials, was also mentioned by the company. Despite the planned closure, Espersen has given assurances that it will continue to honour its commitments to its current clienteles. The firm intends to halt production by mid-November.

Furthermore, the company has pledged to provide support measures for those employees affected by the closure. These provisions include one-on-one counselling and job guidance.
