A Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) report has highlighted lessons for pilot transfer operations in waters off the Lincolnshire coast, following an incident during an attempted transfer from a pilot vessel to a cargo ship.
The MAIB reviewed the vessel’s approach and the arrangements in place for the transfer, including procedures, communications and the equipment used during the boarding attempt. The report makes recommendations intended to reduce the risk of similar incidents, focusing on improved planning, clearer coordination between those involved, and safer use of pilot ladders and transfer craft.
