Mount View Garage, a petrol station in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, that has been shut behind a locked fence for several months, is expected to commence operations later this year. The garage, which closed in February 2023, has been renovated with newly built forecourt and convenience store on its premises. However, they have remained unutilised since their establishment at the end of last year. Retail titan Asda has now verified an imminent commencement of operations at the facility.
Local councillor Philip Roberts, who represents Horncastle on the Lincolnshire County Council, commented on the pervasive local interest in the reopening. He stated, “People continually ask the same question – ‘When will it open?’.” The town, which previously had three functioning petrol stations, now only has one left. Repeated attempts to attain clarification from Asda concerning the delay have been met with a lack of fruitful communication.
The townsfolk are keenly awaiting the reopening. Shelia Ellis, 86, expressed her agitation at the unoccupied site, calling it “a squandering of funds, standing idle.” Likewise, Malc Dean, 85, stressed the importance of the station opening, citing the scarcity of petrol facilities in Horncastle.
An Asda representative discussed the brand’s enduring expansion, reporting, “After the procurement and inauguration of over 470 stores since 2023, we’re keen to open more shops around the UK this year, inclusive of Horncastle.”
