Spalding Level Crossing Undergoes £215,000 Upgrade to Enhance Safety

Network Rail says the crossing surface in Spalding has reached the end of its operational life.

Spalding Level Crossing Undergoes £215,000 Upgrade to Enhance Safety

A major overhaul of a level crossing based on Winsover Road in Spalding is set to commence, thanks to a £215,000 investment from Network Rail. With projections centered around bettering rail reliability and ensuring community safety, the upgrade is a vital development scheme. The surface of the crossing, currently close to the end of its service life, will be substituted with new deck units, tarmac, and road markings.

This undertaking will demand occasional weekend closures until the middle of July and specific overnight closures from the 11th to the 13th of August. Both motorists and pedestrians are recommended to stay updated with these changes to avoid inconvenience during their commute. Every Saturday, the crossing will be closed starting from 20:30 BST and will reopen at 07:00 on Mondays. The overnight closure periods in August will start from 21:30 and continue until 06:30.

Matthew Story, from Network Rail, has stressed the importance of this development, claiming it to be a necessary measure to improve the crossing’s passage for both road and rail users. Whilst acknowledging the inconvenience, Story reassured that most activities will be scheduled for the quieter periods, typically overnight and during weekends, limiting disruption. Traffic diversions will be provided to ensure smooth commuting during the affected times.
