Weight Limits Proposed to Alleviate Traffic Congestion in Louth

The proposed new 7.5 tonne limit aims to reduce the number of lorries entering Louth town centre.

Weight Limits Proposed to Alleviate Traffic Congestion in Louth

Weight limits might soon be implemented on a specific road in Lincolnshire, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion. At a recent Lincolnshire County Council meeting, a proposal was passed to enforce a 7.5 tonne restriction on the stretch between Brackenborough Road and Bolingbroke Road in Louth. The decision came in response to the recent increase in traffic congestion caused by the new link road built for a housing development. The proposed weight limit is aimed at decreasing the influx of large lorries into the town.

Jeanne Gibson, the council’s leader for minor works and traffic, explained during the meeting that the housing scheme necessitated the construction of the road. Gibson said, “This road presents an alternate route to the A16 and the town centre. Enforcing a weight restriction here would consequently reduce the number of HGVs in the area.”

Reform UK councillor Christopher Reeve, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, expressed his support for the proposed restriction. He said, “I believe this is a good idea. It’s in the nature of lorry drivers to opt for the shortest route into the town, hence my support for the proposal”. It should be noted that this proposal will now move forward for the approval of the executive councillor for highways and transport.

This report is based on original coverage initially conducted by The Lincoln Post.
